In Diameter session one or more diameter messages are associated on the basis of session id i.e. all messages that used the same Session Id are in same user session. Value of session id is contained in Session-Id AVP.
Whether a session to be maintained or not is decided on the basis value of Auth-Session-State AVP. It will contain one of these two values NO_STATE_MAINTAINED, STATE_MAINTAINED
